I’ve used sites like YouSendIt and WeTransfer to send and receive big files from friends before, but there was always the upload and download time to consider. If it was a big file and I needed it quickly, could I afford to wait for the other side to upload it, wait for the email link, and then download it? Usually, I’m not in that type of situation, but I certainly wouldn’t mind shortening the process.
I found one unique option on the Web in iSendr . All you need to do is choose a file you want to send from your computer, and once iSendr finishes reading it, you get a link you can send to your friend. All he or she has to do is copy and paste the link into a browser and they can download the file directly from your computer. No need to upload anything to a third-party server, and no need to wait longer than you should.
All that said, you do wait for the file to be read by iSendr, which can take a while if it’s a huge one at 1GB or more, for example, but still less than waiting for it to upload. Another bonus is that you don’t have to necessarily zip or compress a file just to be able to send it — iSendr doesn’t seem to discriminate based on file size. You will, however, have to zip folders with files inside before you set them up to send.
And before I forget, you can add a layer of security by password-protecting the sent file. So, the next time you need to send something to someone in a little less time, try this method out and see if it works for you. It is free, after all.
