Yes, we all know Apple's iPad is doing very well in the States. After all, that's the reason why Steve Jobs announced the nifty little device will not be launching outside of the U.S. until May. But who could have predicted it would do this well. New stats released by Web metrics firm NetApplications show the iPad accounted for 0.03 percent of web traffic in its first week of existence. Due mid-May, 3D Dot Game Heroes is the latest in a long line of interesting Japanese imports from Atlus, and is, in particular, their first PS3 title since the critically-acclaimed Demon Souls (an intensely hardcore dungeon hack). 3D Dot Game Heroes isn't quite as "hardcore" but there's a lot to love for gamers within. Getting a 3DTV early in the game means that you're going to be starved for 3D content until the content engines (networks, movie studios, etc) catch up by producing new content. But wait, that doesn't mean you can't get *a 3DTV eexperience* right now with your plain old flat 2D content. Read more...
The end of April usually means that the weather is getting better (well, at least it’s supposed to be) but we also know it as the time to file those pesky tax returns. Gone are the days of mounds of paper with numbered lines that seemingly made no sense, or paying accountants to do a job that would probably take them no more than 10 minutes. It is your money, after all, so shouldn’t you do your taxes yourself electronically? Read more...
Yesterday at Future Shop’s national training conference for Digital Imaging in Toronto, a CES-style trade show was held by major manufacturers for hundreds of Future Shop associates. I had a chance to check out some of the latest in camera technologies, and will share some of the hot models from the Samsung and Sony lineup. Read more...
Remember Saturday nights in front of the TV? Spending time as a family? Today there are lots of complaints about families not spending enough time together. That technology is getting in the way. Maybe we're just doing it wrong. Read more...
I've been enjoying the Samsung PL51. I don't usually use a point-n-shoot, so I've been dropping it in my pocket to have for shots on the go. Yesterday I tried to push it a little and was pretty impressed with the results. It's not as good as a DSLR, and does suffer from some of the usual point-n-shoot issues like picking what it focus on, but I'm pretty happy with it. Even if the model I'm testing is pink. Well, not really. Actually, last night, before Monster threw down an amazing party for hundreds of Future Shop Mobile Audio associates at a national training event with DJ Skee, I had the chance to meet DJ Tony Trixx, a deejay from the Greater Toronto Area. Read more...

Who doesn’t like having ringtones? I don’t know about you, but I just don’t see the point of paying extra for them if I already own the songs to begin with. So, I found a couple of great ways to make my own free ringtones using just a Web browser. Read more...

I recently finished my first full day with manufacturers and vendors – what a trip. One of the biggest highlights today was discovering Future Shop is carrying marine audio products. While most gamers have moved past Microsoft's original gaming platform, a few die hard fans out there still enjoy turning on their original Xbox consoles to play games like Halo 2 online. Well my friend, your time has finally come. After tonight, Microsoft will be pulling the plug on the Xbox Live service for original Xbox consoles and games. Read more...
We knew it was coming. I just had to come. Back in 2006 in an interview with Gamedaily, former Microsoft VP of Global Marketing Jeff Bell got on the topic of Gears of War when he inadvertently let it slip that the franchise was always intended to be a trilogy. When Epic Games released the original Gears of War on the Xbox 360 it ignited a storm of interest from hardcore third-person shooter fans with its polished graphics and refined cover system. The inclusion of two-player cooperative campaign mode and online multiplayer only served to garner more interest in the title. Read more...

Twin Peaks is twenty! Well, to be completely accurate, Twin Peaks turned twenty years old, er, last week. I meant to post about it on the day it was shown for the very first time on a network (April 8th) but that was a day after my coverage of Alan Wake, which is only the most recent in a number of articles in which I've referenced Twin Peaks. So I kind of forgot about it till now. Not that it really matters; I really can't seem to find out when Twin Peaks was first shown on a Canadian network, for all I know it was weeks later, sometimes they do that, right? Read more...
It's coming up on camera time here at Future Shop and I have another camera that I'm trying on for size. This time it's a point-n-shoot because, in fact, I'd like a new point-n-shoot and while I really like Canon's line I'd also like to try something new too. Besides the fact that the camera is pink, I think this little unit has a lot of potential. Read more...

On April 7, 2010, Xbox Canada held an Alan Wake preview event at the University of Toronto's Hart House Library, a cozy, relaxing reading hall replete with rows of mahogany bookshelves and study sofas, a grooved arched ceiling, and a floor stone fireplace serving as the room's focal point. The strategically placed dim lights created a dusky, moody atmosphere that replicated perfectly the experience I was about to have with Remedy Entertainment's upcoming psychological action-thriller bound exclusively for the Xbox 360 this May.
