My iPad is a key part of my computing arsenal. I don't pack up my laptop without it. If I think I'm going to have any time cooling my heels somewhere, I bring it (yes, I have a "murse" now ). But as great as these apps are, consensus is, the best ones are still coming. Some great ones might come as early as WWDC next month. Read more...
One of the most interesting things to come out of a growing distaste for Facebook is Diaspora. If you haven't heard about it or are just a little aware of it, here's the skinny. Four computer science students have proposed building something akin to a distributed Facebook. People would build their own nodes and have, essentially, inter-connected social networks where you could (better?) control your privacy. Read more...

Electronic Arts announced today that they’ve come to an agreement with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) to include all the teams and players from the OHL, WHL and QMJHL in this year’s NHL 11 game. Google has already conquered your computer, now it's after your TV. The highly rumoured Google TV has officially been announced during Google's I/O developers conference in San Francisco and it's creating quite the buzz.
The service acts just like Google's search engine, but on your television. Users will be able to search for shows they want to record, and they can choose to download shows from the internet (through Hulu, (competitor), and Netflix) for playback on their TV. Google TV will also support Flash which means gamers will be able to check how their farm is coming along in FarmVille right from their couch.

Facebook is the largest social network in the world with 400 million users, and roughly one-in-three Canadians have an account on the site. But it seems like there’s a growing disillusionment with Facebook, given how the social network seems to change privacy policies and controls like a revolving door. A homegrown movement has begun to help people cut themselves off from the site for good on May 31. Read more...
One of the most memorable gaming experiences I’ve ever had in gaming was the time I spend with the original Xbox version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The charming, lithe, acrobatic Prince who starred in that version of the game was the perfect extension of the “you’ve only got one hour to beat this” Prince of Persia that haunted the dreams of my childhood. It was a phenomenal continuation of the series, with a brilliant story, delightful dialog, and combat/platforming action that stood alone and unchallenged as my favourite third-person action-adventure for years. I've written before about Mozy's online automated backup solution and it's time for me to do it again, simply because Mozy's just launched this significant update to version 2.0 which includes Read more...
I’ve used sites like YouSendIt and WeTransfer to send and receive big files from friends before, but there was always the upload and download time to consider. If it was a big file and I needed it quickly, could I afford to wait for the other side to upload it, wait for the email link, and then download it? Usually, I’m not in that type of situation, but I certainly wouldn’t mind shortening the process. Read more...
In having the pleasure of playing through much of Split/Second, the latest arcade racing game from none other than Disney Interactive, I can’t help but admit that I had a ball blowing things up. In trying to build some energy into a pretty stagnant genre, developer Black Rock Studio has put together a racing formula that is hard to let go once you get started. Read more...
An interesting news release by the Electroinc Frontier Foundation last week shows that anonymous web surfing may not be as anonymous as previously thought. Due to each browser's unique characteristics and configuration (fonts available, screen size, IP related information etc) it seems that many browsers create a unique 'fingerprint' that can be used to track you as you surf the Internet Read more...
I did a WES wrap up before forgetting to post one more important post, so here it is! For those of you who remember a company called Unify4Life, they've now partnered up with Audiovox to bring their BlackBerry universal remote along with other products to the new Zentral Home Command. Read more...
I'm a Mac guy, so when I say I'm impressed with a Windows 7 laptop, it really means something. Hence: I am impressed with MSI's A6200 series laptops. Future Shop is bringing two of them in as special buys, and I had a chance to test out the Core i5 A6200. Read more...
