Google has already conquered your computer, now it's after your TV. The highly rumoured Google TV has officially been announced during Google's I/O developers conference in San Francisco and it's creating quite the buzz.
The service acts just like Google's search engine, but on your television. Users will be able to search for shows they want to record, and they can choose to download shows form the internet (through Hulu, (competitor), and Netflix) for playback on their TV. Google TV will also support Flash which means gamers will be able to check how their farm is coming along in FarmVille right from their couch.
Google has already partnered up with Sony for a new line of TVs that will come with the service built-in. DISH Network in the US will also release receivers with Google TV. Logitech is also said to be working on a set top box with an HD webcam built-in to allow for online chat with friends.
Google has also made it clear navigating the web on a TV can't be properly done via remote, so it is ensuring all devices device which use the service will support a keyboard, or can be controlled via an Android phone.
Google isn't saying much about the hardware itself, only that devices will have a "powerful" processor and all will be ethernet of Wi-Fi enabled.
What do you think? Do you have any interest in Google TV or do you think Google is expanding into too many areas. Better question...Do you think it will hit Canada?
