As promised, here is some more info on the upcoming BlackBerry 6 operating system (apologies for the screenshots - they were taken as shots from a powerpoint presentation, so they don't look as clear as they obviously will).

The new features we can look forward to are:

• New homescreen with apps, contacts, bookmarks, favorites, media and more
• Integrated search from the homescreen
• Enhanced media apps (new appearance for music, video, camera and podcast apps)
• Redesigned core apps including messages, calendar, contacts and more\
• A new social networking and RSS feed
• A new webkit browser featuring tabbed browsing, faster performance, and from the looks of it, Flash support

The future of BlackBerry OS looks bright. They absolutely need to get this out as soon as possible (while ensuring that it's rock solid). I hope power management is at the top of the list as well - a great OS is awesome but only if it makes it through the whole day!

Yup, that's one of the things I was hearing.  They want to bring back the excellent battery life that (competitor) is known for, and the 9700 is the start of it.  Let's hope that's just the start of it.

Now then, here's to hoping that carriers will accept it earlier than they did for the 5.0 OS.
