B.C. Government Responds to Pressure, New Video Game Tax Breaks Announced For This Year
The pressure on the B.C. government to step up and support its interactive entertainment industry has been mounting for years now. The province is home to Canada's largest gaming hub, surviving largely without the generous tax incentives seen in Ontario and Quebec. Responding to the lobbying by B.C.'s embattled gaming industry, the government's Finance Minister, Colin Hansen, announced a series of tax credits for the province's film and digital media industries. Sweeping Towards Halo Legends
Hey hey! If you're a Halo fan you're probably frothing at the mouth waiting for the release of Halo Legends, the anise experience that is to present new stories set in the Halo Universe, on February 16th--and you should probably get that seen to, in case it's rabies or something. While you wait (perhaps at the doctor's office) we've got a link to the first couple of minutes of the first short, "The Babysitter" (animated by the legendary Studio 4oC) and hot info on the Halo Legends"Heroes Journey Sweepstakes." QuickTax 2009: New and improved tax software makes the filing process fly by.
If you're like many Canadians you've found a tax product that you feel comfortable with and you've stuck with it. For me, the big familiar QuickTax logo is a relief every year; I know what I'll be getting in the box and the type of experience I can expect on my computer. This year will be a bit different for me; I've got a brand new operating system to test out in Windows 7. Let's see how QuickTax stands up to the test... Read more...

The Games of February 2010 - White Knight Chronicles
Earlier this week I wrote about a couple of notable AAA games dropping in early February, namely Star Trek Online (PC), and Bioshock 2 (multiplatform). While these titles alone are enough to fill my month with gaming bliss, after taking a look at the rest of the February release schedule it's become evident to me that I'll need to clear my calendar for the rest of the month, maybe longer. Let's take a look at one more notable game that appear prominently on my "must-play" list for February 2010: White Knight Chronicles International Edition for the PS3. Read more...

Not iBooks. eBooks!
eBooks are going to be bigger than ever in the coming months, especially since Apple's recently announced its iBooks ebook store. It's pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking that in the coming months with the launch of the iPad, iBooks will also be available for the iPhone and iPod touch... Read more...

Welcome To The Games of February 2010
2010 kicked off with a bang last month, delivering such hotly anticipated titles as Bayonetta, Darksiders, MAG, No More Heroes 2 and Mass Effect 2. It was the most memorable January video game line-up I've ever seen and the launching pad of another exceptional year in gaming. It seems the games industry isn't about to let up for a second as February is poised to deliver must-have titles week-after-week, all month long. Let's have a look at some of the more interesting titles that will soon be lining Future Shop shelves. Read more...

The Hemptress Returns: Weeds Season Five
Weeds Season 5 on Blu-ray has done something I'm thoroughly impressed with: it has delivered an undeniably awesome TV-on-Blu-ray experience. Opting for gorgeous 1080p video and 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, it's one of the highest quality TV experiences I've ever enjoyed. Seeing a show so entertaining with this much attention to presentation detail puts other TV-to-Blu-ray sets to shame. Read more...

This isn't about the iPad, it's about iTunes--iT
unes updates to 9.0.3
Sorry I couldn't resist. Anyway, Apple has released iTunes 9.0.3 which purports to fix the über annoying bug where iTunes forgets every password related to the iTunes store you ever enter. Not that I buy much from iTunes, but my fiancée does and with iTunes Home Sharing (thank you Snow Leopard family pack) so I can get Bizet's Carmen , Bellini's Norma , and John Adam's Nixon in China (which by the way will be the next opera put on by the Vancouver Opera) from her collection. Of course that's only when iTunes remember's all the passwords!
According to TUAW that bug is fixed, but I haven't tested it yet because I wanted to listen to some Pomplamoose first.
After this musical interlude go download it, or just check Software Update (for us superior beings Mac users):

Insert coin to continue: Gamer Blu-ray Review
From Neveldine/Taylor (the twisted pair that brought you Crank) comes Gamer, the story of a man convicted of murder and forced to fight for his freedom as a puppet in the worlds largest online murder reality game. Starring Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, and Terry Crews, Gamer is an irreverent, schizophrenically fun action flick. It's even better on Blu-ray... Read more...

Hand Eye Society Get Social in 2010
I believe I've mentioned the Hand Eye Society before. Wait... yes, I have . Crikey, a few times , even. So therefore I'll just assume you're up to speed with who they are and what they do, and that if you live outside of Toronto that you'll (I'm afraid) probably stop paying attention as you know you won't be able to make it to their latest sweet social gathering on Thursday, February 11th, 8 p.m. at the Unit Bar (1198 Queen W.). Buyin A New TV? Keep The Box
With the Super Bowl coming up next weekend, now is the annual time that plush new flat panel tv's are discounted and on sale. The week of the big game is almost as popular as boxing day to see big boxes of cardboard crushed at the curb for the recycling truck to take away. Police will tell you thieves like tor prowl the boxes to see who has something worth nicking. That may be one reason to keep the box in the basement, but the inevitable move is another. Read more...
