To use a case or not to use a case, that is the question. Everyone loves their cellphones/smartphones and they don't want to see them get damaged. So what is the best way to protect your phone? And if you choose to use a case, what case should you use?
While at WES, I talked to a couple of companies that specialize in making cases for smartphones: Case-Mate and OtterBox. Both of these manufacturers have a strong following with many people loving the OtterBox cases for their durability and others loving the Case-Mate cases for their protection without sacrificing appearance.

My own personal preference is typically to use a clear skin on my BlackBerry Storm (my current skin of choice is the Phantom Skinz protector), and it's protected my phone well - even after dropping it on concrete (twice) the phone stayed intact, although the skin did show a little wear and tear. But for those who want a extra protection and piece of mind, each of the above cases offers a little more protection versus an exposed phone.
The Case-Mate ID Card holder is a new impact resistant plastic case with a space in the back providing enough room for your ID and a couple of credit cards without any risk of demagnetizing your credit cards. This is perfect for those times when you don't need to carry a wallet or a purse, but you do want your phone and a few cards. In other words, this case is perfect for going grocery shopping, or for a quick run down to the corner store, or for a night out on the town. And it does this all without adding considerable bulk to the phone and is a snap to put on.
The OtterBox Commuter case isn't as pretty or quite as easy to put on (still not too hard), but it provides excellent protection. Not that I'd recommend testing it, but this is one case that feels like it would protect your phone if you dropped it. It also adds bulk which helps you hold onto the phone better, especially for people with larger hands. And it does so without a big sacrifice on looks. If you tend to be one of those people who's phone constantly slips out of your hands, this is a case to consider.
So, what to pick... If you want moderate protection with a minimal impact on bulk and appearance, while maintaining an extra level of functionality, the Case-Mate ID case is a great case to check out. For those who want or need a little extra protection and don't mine sacrificing a little in terms of a sleek appearance and extra bulk, the OtterBox Commuter case is probably the better one to look at. Either way, either case offers an excellent option depending on your needs.
