If you're a Mac user like me who has a BlackBerry, I'm sure you've cursed and complained about the dismal options for syncing (not to mention backing up or updating) your BlackBerry with your computer. When I used Windows, fine it was less than a year ago, there was no problem. I synced my 'Berry with Outlook or Google or whatever. I could connect it up and have a nice backup of the device. Yesterday a lucky few (100,000 people) were invited to Google Wave an innovation that has been described as game-changing and "email if it were invented today". The first public disbursement of invitations to Google Wave has been greatly anticipated among the geek set. Brad Grier and I were part of the lucky few to get early invites and we invited Laura, Buzz, Graham, and Klaus (thus far only Buzz has received his invite because Google is trickling out the "second wave" of invites). We've been led to believe for nearly a decade now that Master Chief is an irreplaceable, legendary protagonist of one of gaming's greatest franchises. The cybernetically enhanced SPARTAN super-soldier is everything one could want in a galactic saviour -- fearless, unyielding, and tough as nails. His super strength is only outclassed by his full-body, heavy armour that contains a built-in overshield for added protection from the onslaught of the Covenent forces. There's a war brewing between big content (the folks that make the music and movies that you love) and big consumer electronics manufacturers. CE manufacturers and customers want freedom - freedom to move their content around and enjoy it as they please. Big content wants to restrict those rights in order to protect their investments. I recently spent the better part of a couple of hours on a Friday night deleting duplicates from my iTunes music player. Some might point to the inherent flaws in iTunes to map only paths to files and not files themselves, I point to the digitization of music. Perhaps Jason Calacanis is on to something. About 2 years ago, the internet startup star launched something he called a "human powered search engine." Mahalo would have it's search results catalogued by people. It's that same human powered search that is allowing Twitter, Foursquare, Yelp and a little thing called GPS to change the way search is conductedand the real time information on the go they create blows Google off the map. This past Saturday I was on-hand at the Rogers Ultimate Gaming Experience (UGE) to soak in the sights and sounds of this truly one-of-a-kind gaming experience. The event, which took place in the heart of Toronto, featured a number of attractions ranging from a cosplay contest, live Muay Thai performances, gaming stations, a graffiti artist, and the biggest draw of them all -- a massive gaming tournament with the winner receiving a prize pack valued at $10,000 and the title of "Toronto's #1 Gamer".
